The dream of becoming a flight attendant at Garuda Indonesia

Saturday, April 12, 2014 ago, I accompanied my little sister follow selection test to Garuda Indonesia fight attendant.  The selection process itself is located at The Garuda Indonesia Training Center (GITC) on Jl. Raya Duri Kosambi No. 125 Cengkareng - Jakarta.  Previously my sister have to register online by website of Garuda indonesia (E-recruitment).

Schedule of selection process is held on 08.00 am to 12.00 pm, and we came earlier at 07.30 morning we've got there.  Queues are already quite a lot and my sister get the serial number 93.

Recruitment committee tell us that there are a series of tests that must be passed by the participants, Where Garuda Indonesia flight attendant selection process is using the fall system.  If a participant does not pass the 1st phase, then immediately fall and can not proceed to the next test phase.

The sequance of the candidate selection process of Garuda Indonesia flight attendants on that day is as follows:

1. Measurement of height and weight

2. Catwalk

3. Interview user

4. Psycotest

5. Written English test

We are waiting for the called according serial number, until about 08.30 am my sister serial number was mention to enter to the selection building.  Real weird, there is my sister who is doing for selection test but instead I feel nervous. I am waiting my sister in the outside, praying that my sister could go through all the phase of the selection test of becoming flight attendant at Garuda Indonesia.

As time goes by, I saw a lot of candidates who have been out of the selection building, many of them  came out with a disappointed face.  Yes those are who have fallen out and could not proceed to the next phase.  I was getting worried and continued to pray.  Thanks God my sister has not come out, it means she still running the phases of the selection test.

Until about 10.30 am my sister out from the building with a flat face, she came up to me handing me a letter from the recruitment committee Garuda Indonesia " The committee decided that my sister can not proceed to the next phase of selection test. I tried to encouraging my sister, there is still a chance and we'll try again next month.  Now she must figure out whichever is less.

My sister have a great spirit and passion  to become flight attendant at Garuda Indonesia.  Actually, quite contrary to her educational background.  My sister is graduating from college in 2013 Majoring of Midwifery.  Now she is work for Indonesian Heart Foundation as consultant and medical staff.  Yet somehow she suddenly obsessed to becoming a flight attendant. 

Sometimes indeed we have to go through a job or a particular field before finally we finding the right job and in accordance with the wishes.  Sometimes I loughs, my sister is a midwifery and she wanted to become a flight attendant, hehehehe...

To become flight attendant at Garuda Indonesia was not easy, there are several qualifications that must be met by the candidate stewardess selection, among others:

1. Single woman, citizen of Indonesia (WNI)

2. Able and attractive personality

3. Physically and mentally healthy

4. Minimum age 18 years and maximum 27 years

5. Minimum High School/equivalent, but preferably Diploma and Bachelor Degree

6. Minimum height 158 cm and maximum 172 cm with ideal weight and proportional posture.

7. Not wearing glasses

8. Able to speak English both oral and written.

My sister is own entry in the qualifications, she has a height 163 cm and weight proportionate, attractive and also have a beautiful face, she just  not lucky that day.

To get the job is need a struggles, the process through which sometimes is not easy.  But i convince my sister to not give up and try again. Yesterday she had seen how the selection process through which, now time to remedy and improve which is less.  Incidentally Garuda Indonesia will hold another selection process for prospective flight attendants later May 10, 2014.  And I support my sister to come back to compete the selection process.  God willing if we have strong intention, pray and do effort and also do not give up.  Then Allah will open the way and a path, Aamiin..

In the name of God, hopefully my sister can be admitted to the Garuda Indonesia flight attendants like the wishes..Aamin.
